We Remember

Ten years ago on this day, I was walking through the halls of South High with two of my friends as proud seniors. It was first hour, and we were video taping for Mr. Banniger's Multimedia class. As we looked up to the big screen in the Commons, one tower of the World Trade Center was on fire. We stood in silence as more students and teachers continued to gather and watch with confused looks upon their faces. We saw the second plane hit, eventually leading into collapse. By the end of first period, classes were gathered in front of the big screen, still in silence.

Ten years later, my mom and I visited NYC. At Ground Zero, the silence still remains. It's hard to explain feelings as you stand in the very spot where so many lost their loved ones for reasons unknown. In a frozen stance at St. Paul's Chapel, I read headstones, smelled the fresh grass, leaned against giant trees, and looked up at the tall, neighboring buildings. The stories they could tell. Surreal.

Although the once famous skyline has vanished,
we remember.

And at
The Little Chapel That Stood,
we remember.

On every NYFD truck that drives by,
we remember.

A new memorial,
to remember.

And even with a new skyline,
We Remember.

Thank you to all who serve our country and
those emergency responders who help serve our communities.

We will never forget.
